Chongqing Nanfang Translators College (CNTC) of Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) is a fulltime general college with undergraduate programs entitled to carry out the state enrollment plan of higher education as approved by the Ministry of Education. It is in the first group of private independent undergraduate colleges in China, adopting that new educational model. CNTC, adjacent to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport and Chongqing North Railway Station, has easy traffic with highways and expressways leading to the downtown proper 15 kilometers away and enjoys fresh air in the quiet and beautiful environment.

CNTC covers an area of more than 1,300 mu (around 87 hectares) with grand design, and currently admits more than 12,000 students. Its main buildings include the teaching building with an area of more than 300,000 m2, the administrative building of around 160,000 m2, the student apartments of around 120,000 m2 and the library mansion of around 17,000 m2. The college also possesses two standard track & field grounds plus several courts of basketball, tennis and badminton. With a comprehensive campus information network established, the college has realized automated office work, multi-media teaching and Internet access to the outside world.

CNTC has a strong battalion of best and experienced teachers, old, middle-aged and young, including a dozen of foreign teachers, who are qualified in teaching and research work. To ensure the teaching performance, the college has organized an education supervision group composed of many well-known experts to guide and direct the teaching process. The excellent administrative team together with the logistics department of the college guarantees the provision of first-class services to the teaching activities, the teachers and the students.

CNTC has established 8 academic departments: the Department of Translation, the Department of Business and Trade, the Department of Management, the Department of Asian-European Languages, the Department of International Cultural Exchange, the Department of Arts, the Department of Common Courses and the Modern Educational Technology Center. These departments offer 35 majors and orientations covering English language, Japanese language, German language, journalism, international economy and trade, Chinese language courses for foreign students, engineering management, air services, real estate management and evaluation, marketing, advertising, artistic design, musical performance, etc. CNTC enrolls students from 30 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) of China. The college is a school qualified to give the exam on the subjects of “on-board services and tourism arts (for 3-year students)” in the program sponsored by Chongqing Higher Education Teach-yourself Examinations, and is also a demonstration site of assisting the self-taught students relating to foreign language and culture in that program, providing various assistance classes for the undergraduate and 3-year students majoring in English, law, air services and tourism arts.

Based on the strong teaching and research force of SISU, and with the first-class modern teaching facilities of its own, CNTC is devoted to producing the quality inter-disciplinary talents characterized by good mastery of foreign languages and sufficient practical skills. According to the related stipulations of the Ministry of Education, diplomas recognized by the Ministry of Education for the general fulltime undergraduates (and 3-year students) will be conferred on the students who have completed the regular study period with favorable performances and results, in the name of CNTC of SISU. According to other related national stipulations, diplomas will be conferred on all the students of independent colleges enrolled after the autumn of 2008 and meeting the conditions of being awarded a bachelor’s degree, the B.A certificates, in the name of CNTC itself. However, the B.A certificates will be conferred on the students enrolled before the autumn of 2008 and meeting the conditions of being awarded a bachelor’s degree, following the “old practice”.

CNTC attaches great importance to the employment of its graduates. The college has established a school-level guidance team for guiding the job search, listed the issue as an important item on the agenda of the college, optimized the 2-level (college and department) graduate employment management system, and established the internship bases for the graduates in the fields of real estate, tourism, hotel and air services. From the year 2005 to 2008 in succession, as the inter-disciplinary talents with good mastery of foreign languages and sufficient practical skills, the graduates of CNTC were highly favored by the employers, achieving the employment rate of beyond 90%.
